Establishment of Sugarcane Farmers Institute and Training Center, Kashipur
To enhance sugarcane and sugar production per unit area, it is essential to provide training to farmers and employees. Keeping in mind the limited resources and conveniences of farmers, the Sugarcane Farmers Institute and Training Center, Kashipur was established in March 1980 with the purpose of training farmers as well as extension officers/employees working in the Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry Department. The current building was inaugurated on July 5, 1982, by Shri Narayan Datt Tiwari, the then Union Minister for Industry and Steel, Government of India. The institute campus includes an administrative building, hostel, auditorium, and residential accommodation for officers/employees. After the formation of Uttarakhand state, this center was officially transferred to the state of Uttarakhand in September 2001. Currently, the center covers the districts of Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, and Dehradun. These districts have 2 state-owned, 2 cooperative, and 3 private sugar mills, which fall under the center’s operational jurisdiction. The sugar mills under this center include Kichha, Bajpur, Nadehi, Laksar, Libbarehadi, Iqbalpur, and Doiwala sugarcane development zones. The center conducts training for departmental officers/employees, farmer training at the zonal level, mobile training at the village level, farmer meetings at the zonal/headquarter level, and computer training for officers/employees of the Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry Department. Additionally, the center organizes study tours for progressive sugarcane farmers within the state and to other states.
